Original prototype versions of the staff head used by the character of SkekZok, the Ritual Master in the 1983 Jim Henson and Frank Oz classic The Dark Crystal. Jen (Stephen Garlick), raised by the noble race called the Mystics, has been told that he is the last survivor of his own race, the Gelflings. He sets out to try to find a shard of the dark crystal, a powerful gem that once provided balance to the universe. After the crystal was broken, the evil Skeksis used sinister means to gain control. Jen believes that he can repair the dark crystal and bring peace back to the world, if he can only find the remaining shard.
SkekZok was the Skeksis‘ Ritual Master, and counterpart to urZah the Ritual Guardian. He was in charge of leading all ceremonial occasions, and was third in line to the Skeksis’ throne after the death of skekSo. This piece was created to use on the top of his signature staff but was replaced by a triangular version that is seen in the final cut of the film. This piece was handmade for the film and is created of resin and fiberglass. This intricate piece features crescent moon shape with a Skeksis skull detail on the top with a long scale finger clasping a bright green crystal in the middle. The piece features a gold patina with green aging and has been highly weathered by the production to match the look and feel of the film. This piece is presented on a custom made wooden base for display, measures around 6″ in diameter and remains in excellent, production made condition.
