A Cirrus X3 rocket powered jet pack used in the production of Joe Johnston’s 1991 superhero film The Rocketeer. Stunt pilot Cliff Secord (Bill Campbell) uses a rocket powered jet pack in order to commit heroic deeds and attracts the attention of the FBI and Nazi spies. Extensive stunt sequences were filmed for the film’s ariel scenes involving the Rocketeer and his jet pack aerobatics. This pack was worn by stunt performers during the filming of these sequences.
Constructed from a combination of resin, fiberglass and metal, this jetpack originally housed a hidden parachute system. This system utilized a deploy pilot chute connected to cables which were connected to a deployment bag which caused deployment of the parachute. This process damaged the upper part of the jet pack and, as a result, it is missing from this piece. Remnants of material used for the jet pack’s hidden parachute rig are still present.
Showing some signs of wear from age and use, including scratches, dents, and tape applied during filming, this piece is in overall good production-used condition.
