A velociraptor reference eye from the production of Steven Spielberg’s classic film Jurassic Park. Paleontologists Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) and mathematician Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) are among a select group chosen to tour an island theme park populated by dinosaurs created from prehistoric DNA. While the park’s mastermind, billionaire John Hammond (Richard Attenborough), assures everyone that the facility is safe, they find out otherwise when various ferocious predators break free and go on the hunt.
This ornately detailed raptor eye with a sculpted green core, black latticework and red spot detailing, and a dental acrylic coating was created by key artist Rob Hinderstein at Stan Winston Studio. During production, the eye was inserted into a hand-painted and hand-textured fibreglass and foam raptor socket display to demonstrate the dinosaurs’ potential eye movements to Spielberg. The eye is now permanently installed in the display and remains static. The display exhibits minor chipping, cracking, and grime from age and handling. This piece measures 15″ x 6.5″ and remains in excellent, production used condition.
