Dragonworld – John Carl Buechler Animatronic Dragon Puppet

Vintage original mechanical dragon puppet from MMI Fx John Carl Buechler movie Dragonworld. Set in modern times, a young five-year-old boy named Johnny McGowan travels to Scotland to live at his grandfather’s castle after he loses both his parents in a traffic collision. At the magical wish tree on his grandfather’s estate, he conjures up a friend, which is an infant dragon whom he nicknames “Yowler”. They grow up together as 15 years go by. In that time, his grandfather passes away and Yowler has grown to full size.

Created by Fx master John Carl Buechlerand MMI aka Mechanical and Makeup Imageries who’s credits include – A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, Ghoulies and many more.

This mechanical dragon puppet is made of foam latex over a metal armature and mounted to a board that allows the dragon to preform realistic movements via an elaborate cable-and-lever system. All the cables used to make the puppet function remain but have not been tested for functionality. The animatronic dragon puppet has had some restoration to remove aged cracking and stabilization. The puppet measures approximately 25.5″ x 17.7″ (65cm x 45cm).
