Original buoy and netting section used in the production of the 1975 Steven Spielberg classic Jaws. When a young woman is killed by a shark while skinny-dipping near the New England tourist town of Amity Island, police chief Martin Brody (Roy Scheider) wants to close the beaches, but mayor Larry Vaughn (Murray Hamilton) overrules him, fearing that the loss of tourist revenue will cripple the town. Ichthyologist Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and grizzled ship captain Quint (Robert Shaw) offer to help Brody capture the killer beast, and the trio engage in an epic battle of man vs. nature.
This section of buoy with attached netting can be seen in the finale of the film where the shark attacks the boat, killing Quint. During and after the attack long sections of these buoy’s are present, floating around the boat during the carnage. This section features three hard foam buoy sections, round in shape, all attached to a section of worn rope with a large section of rope netting still present on one side. The foam on this piece has hardened over time, and there is wear present on the top section as well. This piece measures 15″ in length and remains in excellent, production used condition.
