Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back Space Slug Tooth

An original space slug tooth created for the production of the 1980 science fiction picture The Empire Strikes Back.

The space slug was created by conceptual designer Ralph McQuarrie with the effects achieved practically by Industrial Light & Magic. A puppet was designed for this sequence by Phil Tippett and operated by Jon Berg.
A large set a jaws was also required for this shot which measured over feet wide and contained a number of teeth through which a Millennium Falcon miniature would fly through to escape.

Although this tooth was ultimately unused, it was created during the production and is cast in ivory colored resin. This tooth was given as a gift to special effects supervisor Brian Johnson by Phil Tippett and Lorne Peterson after they had finished filming the shot at the Industrial Light & Magic facility at San Rafael in late 1979.

The tooth itself measures 3.5″ x 2.5″ (8.8cm x 6.3cm) and remains in excellent production made condition and is displayed on a custom display.
