“Split” Bowling Ball & Pins from the 2000 B.C. comedy The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas, based on the 1960–66 animated television series.
The sfx bowling ball as used by Fred Flintstone’s (Mark Addy) and can be seen in the beginning of the film as Fred shows off his bowling skills to Wilma (Kristen Johnston) at a carnival. The ball is made out of fiberglass and has been sculpted and painted to resemble being made from rock. Remnants of clay are still present around the inside edges of the ball, which would have been used during filming to hold the ball together before Fred’s “split” bowl. The ball has a diameter of approximately 10″ (25cm) and when split each piece stands about 5.5″ (14cm) high.
The two pins are made of foam and have been painted and sculpted to resemble being made from rock. Each pin has a red stripe around the neck, while one pin still contains a long spring in the bottom from the production. The pins each measure approximately 15” x 6” (38cm x 15cm) and the set all display some wear from production use but remain in good condition.
