A 6″ x 9″ (15.2cm x 22.8cm) piece of the Death Star model used in George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode VI- Return of the Jedi. Pieces such of this were part of a large model set which was used in the film’s epic finale as the forces of the Rebel Alliance attacked the Imperial Death Star. Larger model pieces were used to provide a larger sense of scale as models flew over the Death Star at a higher altitude.
Made of biscuit foam with a grey paint finish created by ILM model makers for use in creating the large filming miniature of the Death Star surface. Many interlocking abstract pieces were made, painted and detailed to the high standard that ILM are now renowned for.
The reverse side of the piece has a hand-written note in marker which give information about its use in the film. This piece shows some signs of wear but remains in overall good condition.
