Sandworm head used in the production of the 1988 Tim Burton fantasy film Bettlejuice. After Barbara (Geena Davis) and Adam Maitland (Alec Baldwin) die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck haunting their country residence, unable to leave the house. When the unbearable Deetzes (Catherine O’Hara, Jeffrey Jones) and teen daughter Lydia (Winona Ryder) buy the home, the Maitlands attempt to scare them away without success. Their efforts attract Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton), a rambunctious spirit whose “help” quickly becomes dangerous for the Maitlands and innocent Lydia.
This head was made by the production and used on the miniature scale sandworm puppets in the films most notable scene. This piece is made of foam latex in the shape of a fictional sandworm, with an open mouth and long metal rod protruding from the back end where it would have been attached to the miniature body. The head has been painted the signature white and black striped colors with green and red accents but the paint job has aged over time. This piece shows signs of wear from use in the film but remains in good, production used condition.
