An original and complete hero ensemble made for the NDR android character “Andrew Martin” played by Robin Williams in the classic film Bicentennial Man This is a complete hero robot costume worn by late actor Robin Williams in the 1999 Chris Columbus science fiction film Bicentennial Man.
This is one of only three complete suits created and used by Robin Williams in the film, with one of the others belonging to the Williams family, and the other residing with the director Chris Columbus. This piece was created by the world-famous Steve Johnson of Steve Johnson FX studios and was on display for many years at the Academy Award winner’s studios.
This suit is created out of various materials, with the outer shell being comprised of vacuformed gold tinted plastic. The suit components are held together with metal accents and fasteners. The soft sections of the suit are made of nylon and are present around the waist area and joints near the knees and elbows. Sections of the under suit are made of foam latex, such as the gloves that have vacuformed pieces attached. There are very detailed sections on the sides of the head as well as on the legs that feature various faux electronic components under clear vacuformed plastic.
There is a small crack behind the leg when Robin had fallen over during the beach scene in the film The suit sits on top of a custom-made steel armature with a cast of Robin Williams body attached, which still wears a pair of bicycle shorts worn during the filming of the movie. The armature is attached to a round wooden base for display. This piece shows some minor wear from use in the film but remains in excellent, production used condition.
