The Terminator special effects fist (Arnold Schwarzenegger) from James Cameron’s 1984 sci-fi classic, The Terminator.
In the film, a seemingly unstoppable cyborg from the future, known as the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger), is sent back in time to assassinate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), a young woman whose unborn son will one day lead the resistance against the machines.
Seen when The Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) purses Sarah Conner (Linda Hamilton) and Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) after they flee the Tech Noir nightclub and The Terminator punches through the windscreen of the car they are trying to escape in. The shot was achieved with a fist attached to a mechanical rig to double as The Terminators as it punches through the windshield. Created by Stan Winston Studios, this fist is cast in solid plaster around a steel bar and is finished with painted latex to imitate skin making it heavy and a durable prop with which the screen could be smashed.
Since the film, the steel bar has been cut to a more manageable length having been considerably longer during the production in order to secure it to the rig. There has been some minor stabilization work and some evidence of shrinking to the latex at the bottom of the prop but over all in good production-used condition and a fantastic artifact from this classic film.
