A prop “Pup” scanner ball used in the production of Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel Prometheus. Led to a distant planet by ancient wall paintings, scientists Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace) and Charlie Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) join a corporate-sponsored mission to discover the source of life on Earth. But in the ruins of an alien space craft, the human explorers soon find that all is not as it seems, and a great threat lurks in its deep holds.
This static scanner ball was used for the scene in which geologist Fifield (Sean Harris) released his Pups into the bowels of the Engineer juggernaut to carry out a full 3D scan survey of the vessel. The scanner ball features a pattern intended to replicate the look of woven wire, with the piece given a dry-brushed aluminum finish and is made of plastic. Lines running across the surface indicate the various panels between which the Pup emitted its lasers for scanning. With some minor wear from use on the production including light paint wear from abrasions on the surface, the scanner ball remains in very good condition.
