Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) – Buckbeak’s Execution Axe

Original axe made for use in the production of the 2004 fantasy film Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban. Harry Potter’s (Daniel Radcliffe) third year at Hogwarts starts off badly when he learns deranged killer Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) has escaped from Azkaban prison and is bent on murdering the teenage wizard. While Hermione’s (Emma Watson) cat torments Ron’s (Rupert Grint) sickly rat, causing a rift among the trio, a swarm of nasty Dementors is sent to protect the school from Black. A mysterious new teacher helps Harry learn to defend himself, but what is his secret tie to Sirius Black?

This piece was created by the production for use in the film but un-used in the final cut, being replaced with a larger version of the same design that was substantially larger on screen. This axe features a metal axe head, curved to one side with magical engravings present on each side. Thee head is attached to a long wooden handle with engraved “hash” marks in thee handle. The head itself is dark black and arrow in color with a sharpened chrome edge, and shows pitting marks making it appear to have been made of cast iron. The handle features real leather wrap where it meets the axe head, and has two piece is metal fruit down each side. This axe measures 43″ x 11″ and remains in excellent, production made condition.
