A stunt Morita Sniper Rifle rifle used in the 1997 sci-fi action film Starship Troopers. This is the one and only Stunt Morita Sniper Rifle made for the first Starship Troopers film production and used exclusively by Technical Sergeant Sugar Watkins, played by actor Seth Gilliam. The piece is cast in dense hard rubberized foam and skinned in rubber, adorned with hand painted black and green details along with a silver painted ammunition magazine. The rifle was internally reinforced by steel wire and aluminum rods with a massive sniper scope affixed to the top carry handle of the rifle. This sniper rifle was hand crafted and detailed for Gilliam by the film’s armorer Robert ‘Rock’ Galotti. Gilliam had four fiberglass sniper rifles, which were fitted with live firearms and the heavy faux sniper scopes. For the production every actor was given a rubber stunt version of their own weapon to carry, as the actual firearms could get to be very heavy on set. Gilliam however never received a rubber version of his Sniper rifle at the start of filming due to the unique nature of the rifle, so without complaining, he hefted the fully loaded fiberglass hero version throughout the first half of the production. As a reward for his diligence, the armorer specially made a single rubber sniper Morita for Gilliam to use.
The rifle can be spotted in several background walking scenes, as well as having been used for all of the stunts and jump scenes like the leap from the ramparts in the Whiskey Outpost battle. It can be easily spotted during Sugar’s Death scene and the rifle still has several large spots of stage blood on it from the cave. This piece is one of a kind and truly unique, in good production used condition and measuring 39.7″in length (101cm).
This item comes with a Hero Prop Certificate of Authenticity.
