Full sized animatronic wolf puppet featured in the 2011 Liam Neeson film The grey. Following a grueling five-week shift at an Alaskan oil refinery, workers led by sharpshooter John Ottway (Liam Neeson) are flying home for a much-needed vacation. A brutal storm causes their plane to crash in the frozen wilderness, and only eight men (Frank Grillo, Dermot Mulroney), including Ottway, survive. As they trek southward toward civilization and safety, Ottway and his companions must battle mortal injuries, the icy elements, and a pack of hungry wolves.
This wolf along with a handful of others were created by KNB effects group for use in the film where it would be too dangerous for actors to interact with live animals. This piece was painstakingly detailed to replicate the look of a real life wolf. The main body is made of a fiberglass structure with metal armature legs and foam padding. The wolf body features hand punched grey and black hair and the entire wolf is attached to the original metal base used to hold the wolf in an upright position.
The wolf is fully animatronic and features movable legs, neck, head, mouth and ears. Although untested, the animatronics still feature the working cables that would control the wolf’s movements along with plastic tubing and syringe that was used to simulate the wolf’s salivating mouth. The wolf features detailed acrylic eyes with a resin mouth and extremely detailed acrylic teeth. This wolf measures over 3 feet high and remains in excellent, screen used condition.
