Phil Tippett Dragon Maquette – Dragonheart

A dragon maquette from Rob Cohen’s fantasy adventure film Dragonheart. Phil Tippett is credited as Designer: Dragon Designs on this title. Tippett Studio crafted numerous maquettes with evolving styles when defining the look of Draco for the film.

This original creature maquette constructed of modeling compound sculpted over wire armature. The sculpture depicts a dragon character standing upright. The wire wing portion of the armature is exposed. The maquette is a unique one-off sculpted by legendary artist, animator, sculptor and dragon designer for the movie, Phil Tippett. Measuring 13” x 13” x 12” (33.02cm x 33.02cm x 30.48cm). The modeling compound, likely “Sculpey”, has been baked and cured to a set, rigid state. Exhibiting minor chipping and some broken detail.
