“Miner” blaster featured in the production of the third season of Star Trek: Discovery. Created by Bryan Fuller and Alex Kurtzman for CBS All Access, the story of “Star Trek: Discovery” begins roughly a decade before Captain Kirk’s five-year mission — as portrayed in the original “Star Trek” from the 1960s — and a century before the events of “Star Trek: Enterprise.” The series follows the crew of the USS Discovery as they encounter new worlds and civilizations, delving into familiar themes and expanding upon an incident that has been talked about within the franchise’s universe, but never fully explored.
This blaster was used by the character of “Kal” and can be seen when the crew enters the miner facility in the second act of the season three episode “Far From Home”. This piece is made of a very dense urethane rubber with 3D printed and plastic parts. There is a cross section of tinted white acrylic on the emitter that lights up when a hidden push button is depressed on the top back. The handle section is wrapped in faux brown leather wraps. The battery department is accessed when the side grey “vent” detail is removed. There are electrical components that are untested but presumed in working condition. This piece features a metallic yellow paint scheme with distressing by the production to look aged and worn. This item shows slight wear from use in the series but remains in excellent, production used condition.
