Lethal Weapon (1987) – Original Production Poster Concept Artwork by Morgan Weistling

An original poster concept from “Lethal Weapon”, the Richard Donner film starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover, by poster artist Morgan Weistling. Weistling was one of the most prolific poster artists in the 80’s and early 90’s, and painted the one sheets of movies like “Last Action Hero” or “Innerspace”.

Weistling did a lot of concept work for the film’s key art while still in production, under the art direction of Jeff Bacon and David Reneric, in order to explore creative directions for the film’s one sheet, marketing campaign and promo cast photo shoots. For the final poster of the movie, Bacon and Reneric used a photography by Aaron Rapaport.

Pencil on gessoed illustration board. . It has some signs of age after 30 years of storage and has caused some yellowing on the lower area of the board, with some slight bending. The board measures 14.9″ x 9.8″ (38 x 25 cm), the actual area of the drawings measures 11.8″ x 7.4″ (30 x 19 cm).
