A Mobile Infantry laser tag vest from Paul Verhoeven’s cult classic science fiction action film, Starship Troopers. The laser tag vest is made of resin and hard rubber, with lights built into both the straps and the chest piece. The straps of the vest are made of black nylon encased in hardened rubber.
The chest and back units are made of resin, with removable doors to compartments that house wiring and lights. The rear main portion of the vest contains a 12 volt rechargeable battery that powers the entire vest. The straps include eight lights housed within resin octagon-shaped compartments. The lights on the vest are operated using a small plug in remote with a long lead wire which originally ran through the back of the trooper’s uniform and to the actor’s hand for activation.
With the push of a button the vest lights up. The lot shows minor wear due to production use and age, with small breaks to the rubber straps and chips in the resin. One of the rear lights on the lower back portion of the vest intermittently operates however the remaining lights on the vest light brightly and are fully operational. The piece remains in very fine overall condition and an original battery, which still holds a charge along with a matching charging station is also included.
This particular vest has been documented as having been worn by “Johnny Rico”, played by actor Casper Van Dien as well as one of his stunt men, Joey Box. The vest can be screen matched to the laser tag scene by identifying scratches and marks on the vest. Additionally it was also used by Casper’s stunt man during the “flip six three hole” maneuver that won the game.
